Dedication.

Dedication. (say period)

That's why principals do what they do. It's a selfless act to be a principal. The thanks are few and the problems are many. The kids drive me to work and support my teachers. Sometimes, it's tough to do so. I believe that there is a lack of awareness and understanding of the principalship and what he or she does. It's behind the scenes, running interference for the teacher, protecting the kid from an abusive parent, fixing tech problems, discipline, curriculum...and the list goes on. Sometimes it's good to vent. I feel like I'm rambling but heck, sometimes you just get frustrated... but... I know tomorrow some little kid will say "good morning, Mr. Kandel" hug my legs and everything will be better.

School Security- What really can we do?

I'm really curious to the ideas that other schools are trying to secure schools...

I know for us it's so difficult to decide where to start let alone how to fund.

What are some problems and solutions that are being used in your own schools and districts to protect our kids?

In Service with a Smile

Today was our all day inservice. We decided to start the day with a great breakfast. Myself, another principal, and some great help from my secretary and custodian served about 100 teachers pancakes and sausage. It was a nice way to start the day and the teachers seemed to have a very productive work day.

I feel it's so important for our teachers to be able to be involved in the decision making process as to what is done on inservice day. Common assessments were on the menu today and a lot got accomplished.
